A Rainy Day in Ohio

I sit in silence staring out the glass
I hear the patter off the rooftop
The soft trickle of running water down an incline
The roar of the army of drops splashing down
The soft hum of vehicles passing by
And my own heartbeat

I sit in silence staring into space
I feel the chill of the wind
The warmth of my body
The rhythmic dance of my diaphragm as I breathe
The moisture on my palms
And my own heartbeat

I stand in silence staring into the glass
I see the curls coil up near my eyes
The light shining through a bare window
The soft curve of my shoulders
The upward climb of the corners of my lips
Evidence of my heartbeat

It is indeed good to be alive on a rainy day in Ohio

P.S. Pluviophile here! I love what rain represents physically and figuratively — a chance for growth, for life, for cleansing. Rainy weather allows the chance to be still and reflect, at least for me. It reminds me of the fond memories I have of Dominica, my home: sitting on the veranda staring out at the distant sea, lightly showered by the mist of the air, and everything at peace except for the sound of rain.

What feelings and thoughts does rainy weather engender in you?
